We undertook an arduous night hike to the Defense Mine. We arrived at the lower portal and entered the mine there. During our exploration, we made our way upward to two upper levels by climbing up 150-foot ladders in two separate shafts. While the lowest level had mostly tunnels, the upper levels consisted of stoped-out chambers connected by tunnels.
