For more information on the seminar, see: https://pgadey.ca/seminar/. • Abstract: • Abstract: A special case modularity theorem which connects modular forms and elliptic curves was used to prove Fermat’s last theorem. In this talk, the concept of elliptic curves and modular forms will be introduced in a way relating to their names. I will explain why elliptic curve is more or less a torus, why it is called elliptic and how does it related to definition of modular forms. Even though the importance of the connections were in number thoery, elliptic curve is an object in algebraic geometry and modular form is an object in complex analysis. Therefore, no background in number theory will be assumed and familiarity with group thoery and complex analysis is an asset. • #mtbos #algebra #seminar #modularforms
