Daily Chickadee Nest Progression Nest Building to Eggs Hatching

This is video footage of a pair of Carolina chickadees who nested in a nest box in the spring of 2022. • Nest box inspections began in late February. Nest construction did not begin until late March. Between that time, the chickadees were vigorously defending their territory and exploring other potential nest box locations, including a bluebird nest box. • Because bluebirds can evict chickadees, a 1-1/8 hole reducer was put on the nest box to protect them from bigger birds.
