In today’s recipe video I show you how to make bagilla, a simple and delicious (but not so healthy) breakfast dish. This is normally made as a treat for occasions and gatherings. This dish is normally served with eggs however I have personally enjoyed it just as much without the eggs for years. Shout out to khala Om Haider for the idea of adding fried onions and tomatoes to this - makes it extra tasty. • This recipe makes ~4 servings. • Ingredients: • • 1 large can of brown broad beans/fava beans (800 ml) • • 3-4 pieces of Iraqi flatbread • • 2 tbsp of dried butnij (hedgnettle/mint) • • 1/4 cup of oil (I used sunflower) • • 1 red onion, sliced and sautéed (optional) • • a large handful of cherry tomatoes, halved and sautéed (optional) • • a few wedges of lemon/lime to serve • Method: • 1. Place the beans (skins removed) and water from the can into a pot and place on a high heat. • 2. Pour the oil in a small pan or saucepan and place on high heat. • 3. Tear the bread in to medium-large pieces and add to the beans once the water comes to a boil. Gently press down and stir. Leave for a minute and then use a slotted spoon to add to the serving dish with 1 tbsp of butnij placed at the bottom of the bowl. Then carefully pour the heated oil on top of the bread, and add another tbsp of butnij on top. • 4. Finish by adding the onion and tomatoes on top and serve with wedges of lemon/lime. • Enjoy! • Big shout out to Hanoon for helping me film this video.
