Science and Technology, Environment Science • Story of Gate valve • Hello friends this is gajanan ramchandra meshram, A retired mechanical engineer well come to my channel. Today I brought you a story of industrial gate valves. If you are new to my channel please like, subscribe and comment video to encourage me to bring such informative videos for you. So let us begin the story • Let us understand • What Gate Valve is? • Gate valve is an isolation valve . Gate valve has a gate like closing element. It moves up and down perpendicular to the path of fluid flow in the valve body. When gate moves upward, fluid flow path gets open and when the gate moves downwards it restricts the fluid flow path and valve gets closed. Gate valves provide straight through obstruction to passage way, which results in minimum pressure loss. Gate valves are designed for fully open and fully closed services. They are not used for flow regulation purposes. • GATE VALVE BONNET DESIGN • (1)BOLTED BONNET DESIGN • (2)WELDED BONNET DESIGN • (3)SCEREWED BONNET DESIGN • (4)UNION BONNET DESIGN • Bolted Bonnet Gate Valve • Bolted bonnet gate valve is a type of gate valve which offers sealing in larger valves and applications for high pressure. • In bolted bonnet gate valve, valve body and bonnet are bolted and flanged together. • Welded Bonnet Gate Valve • Welded bonnet gate valve is a type of gate valve which offers sealing in Smaller valves for high pressure applications. • In welded bonnet gate valve, body and bonnet are seal welded together. • Threaded Bonnet Gate Valve • Threaded bonnet valve is a simple construction and low-cost design. There is fragility in this setup. The gasket of the valve bonnet closely attached to the rotating surface, this leads to friction during tightening and loosening. This results, the joint surface to damage thus causing leakages. Another drawback is as the valve size gets larger, the torque required to tighten the valve increases significantly. Therefore, this bonnet type is usually limited to nominal sizes of DN80 and below • Gate Valve Designs By Stem • (1) Rising Stem Gate Valve • (2) Non Rising Stem Gate Valve • Rising stem gate valve • These valves have the external threads on the valve stem. The gate valve stem is moving up when the valve is opening. Rising stem valves are usually made from cast or forged steel. Rising stem gate valves can be used in high pressure rating from Class 2500 or up to 420 bar. Rising stem gate valve opening is easy to identify. Valve is open or closed is seen by the amount of stem that is exposed • Non-Rising stem gate valve • The non-rising stem gate valve has the internal stem threads, it is known as the rotary stem gate valve or the blind stem gate valve. The stem rotate to open and close the gate, but the stem does not move up or down as it rotates. As the stem rotates, it moves in and out in the valve gate disc, which also moves the gate to open or close the valve. Non-rising stems takes up less space and are ideal choice where space is limited. Normally, an open-close indicator is fitted to indicate the degree of open-close of the valve. Non rising stem valves are more typically made of brass, bronze or cast iron. • #gatevalves #centrifugalpump# gajananramchandrameshram
