A playthrough of Hal's 1991 puzzle game for the NES, Adventures of Lolo 3. • Lolo 3 is a super-satisfying bookend to the NES Lolo trilogy. It refines and expands upon everything introduced in the first two games, it modernizes the presentation, and most importantly, it delivers 100 new puzzles to solve - twice the number found in either Lolo 1 or 2. • This time, the evil prince has turned everyone in Eggerland to stone while Lolo and Lala are off romancing one another at a nearby lake. Since they were the only ones to avoid becoming statues, the couple take it upon themselves to save the day, and because this is a Lolo game, they do that by solving puzzle rooms. Yes, they. Lala hasn't been kidnapped, so you can play as her this time out. She's the same as Lolo but pink and with a bow, but it is nice that she isn't yet again cast as the damsel in distress. • The tutorial stages are a perfect addition for bringing new players into the fold, and the overworld map screen gives the game a convenient way to split levels by theme. It makes for an attractive framing device, and it makes the stages feel like part of a bigger world far better than the tower setup managed in the first two games. • The puzzles themselves are great. Not only are there a metric butt-ton of them, but the game also introduces a couple of new mechanics: there are bridges that can be crossed a limited number of times, and in the underwater stages, there are new whale creatures that can pull you backwards to trap you. The challenge is well balanced, too. The difficulty curve is much kinder to newcomers than before - it gives you a chance to get comfortable with the rules before pulling the rug out from under you - but there are puzzles near the end that manage to be just as mind-bending as anything you'll find in Lolo 2. Thank God for unlimited time and unlimited lives. (And for the suicide button!) There are even a few superfluous yet fun boss fights. • Adventures of Lolo 3 pretty much perfects the series' formula. If you've never played a Lolo game, I would suggest starting here. It looks and sounds fantastic, and it's brimming with all the content you could possibly ask for. These hundred stages are good for dozens of hours of gameplay. • If you can get down with good puzzle game, Lolo 3 is about as good as it gets on the NES. • If you'd like to check out the older Lolo games, here are a couple of links: • Adventures of Lolo:    • Adventures of Lolo (NES) Playthrough ...   • Adventures of Lolo 2:    • Adventures of Lolo 2 (NES) Playthroug...   • And remember when Lolo and Lala showed up as minibosses in Kirby's Dream Land?    • Kirby's Dream Land (Game Boy) Playthr...   • _____________ • No cheats were used during the recording of this video. • • NintendoComplete (http://www.nintendocomplete.com/) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games!
