Before you start wasting more hard earn cash on tanning light just like me or plan to sell off your eye sore pale yellow Super Red, be sure to watch this first. In this video I'll be comparing few light set which I personally use on my SR, and sharing how you should select or use your tanning light to bring the best out from your SR. • The 7 mantra . • #1 Never put a submersible light out side of your tank. • #2 For side tanning use a reptile light for its high UVA output. • #3 Glass panel reduce UV intensity at least by 30% - 50%, so it's not making any sense to use light other than reptile light for side tanning. • #4 Glass panel filter out UVB, so placing a already low UV output light outside the tank is plain electricity wastage. • #5 There's no ugly fish, only wrong way of light and diet. • #6 Don't go for designer brand , but go for those who dare to show wavelength graphs covering 280nm-400nm(uva+uvb), the rest of it is visible light which meant for illumination or eye candy that serve little to no purpose. • #7 Human eye unable to perceive UV light, bright visible light does not mean high UV, high lumen light can be 0 UV. • Note: • From 6- 12 inch, any off the shelf non LED light should work to develop its shine or crossing. When your fish is at least 13 inch and above you may want to switch to reptile light for side tanning, however never use it on young fish as high intensity UVA may damage younger fish scale.
