Woodturning How to Cut and Rough Turn Burls or Bowls Part 1

In this video I am using a chain saw to cut up a couple of large maple burls, but the process is the same for turning bowls. I show how I cut them up to shape with my Stihl 391 chainsaw with a 24 bar. Because the pieces are large diameter, I do all of the woodturning and rough turning at the end of my Laguna 2436 lathe. It has an extension bed that allows turning of larger diameter items with tailstock support. After rough turning I decided to place the pieces in my home made wood kiln. This is as far as I get in Part 1. A new Part 2 video will finish off these pieces and I expect to release this in 2 to 3 month after the pieces have dried sufficiently. • Instagram: / frankdidomizio_woodturner • Facebook: / frankdidomizio.woodturning.7 • Website: https://www.frankdidomizio.com/ • Email: [email protected] • Tools I use in the video: • Stihl 391 chainsaw • Laguna 2436 Revo lathe • Robust tool rests https://woodchuckers.com/, http://www.turnrobust.com/ • Oneway chucks https://woodchuckers.com/, https://oneway.ca/ • Vicmarc chucks https://www.branchestobowls.com/chucks • 5/8” roughing bowl gouges (Hamlet, Thompson, Oneway, Robust) • Andre Martel calipers http://martelhooktool.com/ENG/USA/out... • • This video is for entertainment purposes, woodturning can be dangerous, follow all safety precautions when using your tools and equipment and get proper instruction/training.
