The hole in the glass department store window and a naked mannequin on the ground are the only things I left behind. I ran and ran, the colorful city lights rushing past me in a dizzying scene. I could hear distant sirens and I somehow knew they were for me. Not knowing where else to go, I ran into the nearest alley. The cop cars rush past my hiding spot, the sirens still screaming. I tried to catch my breath, my heart pounding quickly in my chest. I tried to slow my breathing when a noise in the alley suddenly startled me. The alley was dark but I sensed someone staring at me through the darkness. Big blue eyes blinked at me and a yellow paw reached out for me. I hesitantly reached back to them. They grabbed my arm firmly and pulled me in. We fall together and I land on soft fur. When I open my eyes I see them staring back up at me, breathing heavily.
