Genelec is much smaller and a bit more expensive, but on normal listening levels sounds more natural, especially the midrange of 8010A sounds more natural and detailed than the one in HS5. Yamaha has a bit of honk coloration in the lower mid ranges and overall sounds rather flat and uninspiring through the midrange. Upper midrange in HS5 is pushed forward to add a sense of detail, but in reality it is not that detailed as it seem at the first glance. Bass response is slightly more groovy in HS5 but that is expected with such a size difference, and Yamaha still needs subwoofer to have proper bass IMO, as do Genelec, so there is no real advantage here IMO. Top end is also more pronounced in Yamaha, while Genelec is more laid back and easier on the ear while still being detailed. Overall Genelec sounds more coherent and richer in my opinion. • What do You think? Which one is better sounding in Your opinion? Let me know in the comments below!
