Good morning dear friends, • Today let's visit the Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru, Terminal 2; which has been internationally recognised as one of the 'World's most beautiful airports'. • Terminal 2, was inaugurated on 11th November 2022 by the honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. T2 became operational for domestic flights on 15th January 2023. Terminal 2 is equipped to handle at least 25 million flyers annually. • This opulent and lush 255,000 Sqm airport 'Terminal in a Garden', reflects Karnataka's rich heritage and culture, fame as the garden city of India and as the technology hub of India. The nature inspired structure and interiors of Terminal 2, have interconnected buildings joined together by landscaped, foliage-strewn spaces featuring indoor waterfalls, a vast, three-story 'forest belt', stunning bamboo-lattice ceilings, bamboo-clad pillars, hanging gardens that cascade down from the terminal roof and large golden bells (Bells and Veils/ hanging planters) that are suspended from the ceiling. Terminal 2 makes use of locally sourced materials, like ivory brown granite, umber red bricks, and traditionally woven rattan. Adorned with 600 thousand plants from diverse ecological habitats of India, Terminal 2 is a true celebration of the ‘garden city’ of Bengaluru and is an airport terminal like none other in India. • Awards and recognitions : • 1. The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has been awarded 'The Best Regional Airport in India and South Asia', at the esteemed 2024 Skytrax World Airport Awards. • 2. KIA’s Terminal 2 secured the 2nd position As the World’s Best New Airport Terminal, for terminals opened in the 18 months prior to the 2024 World Airport Awards. • 3.
