In this CSS tutorial, we'll look at how to darken an image with CSS and show how this might be used with a hover-over effect. • Follow me on Twitter: / codebubb • Facebook: / juniordevelopercentral • Blog: https://www.juniordevelopercentral.com/ • So in this CSS tutorial, we'll take a look at a couple of way of how to darken an image with CSS the first being slightly more complicated and the second being the more up to date 'modern' way of doing it. • This first method relies on the CSS 'opacity' property which you will see allows us to adjust the amount of background that shows through on an individual element which in our case is an image. • The second method we'll take a look at is using the CSS 'filter' property which opens up a wide range of effects that can be applied to our elements one of which is 'brightness' which can be used to darken the image in question. • So the second method is a little bit easier but it does only allow you to make the image appear darker but it's only one line of code. It also may have some consequences for older browsers that don't support it. So you might want to consider using the first method if you have older browsers to support and also you have the need to potentially change the background colour that is showing through to change the whole tone of the darkened image. • Finally as a little example, we'll see how to use CSS filter hover effects to create a hover effect when moving the mouse over the darkened HTML element. • So I hope you find this CSS HowTos, part of our CSS basics for beginners, Junior Developer Central guide of to how to darken an image with CSS useful. • #CSS #CSSTutorial #CSSHowtos Channel Handle @codebubb
