Henri Toivonen (Finland) wins. • • The week-long Monte Carlo Rally, the first of the international season, finished in Monaco on Friday (24/1) with success for the Finnish driver, Henri Toivenon, in a Lancia. He and his co-driver, Sergio Cresta of Italy, in a Lancia Delta S4 were two minutes clear of the field. More than 150 cars had set out at the beginnings of the week from different European cities, travelling over snowy roads - 12 hours driving and eight hours off - to Monaco. The second car was a Peugeot driven by another Finn, the World Champion, Timo Salonen, with his compatriot, Seppo Harjannee. The third car was an Audi sport Quattro with yet another Finn, Hannu Mikkola, and the Swede, Arne Hertz, at the wheel. For Toivonen, his success was a double victory.
