Balance is the ability to stay upright and in coordinated control of our body. It is our ability to keep our center of mass over our base of support. • In this simple static balance test you can assess your ability. If you are able to hold this position for 10 seconds, this is considered normal. For a more challenging test, close your eyes and hold for 10 seconds. • Whether it's daily activities like walking or climbing stairs or more dynamic activities like sports, balance is the building block that allows us to perform optimally. • Fall risk is something to consider when assessing balance. If your balance is significantly compromised, make sure to hold on to a stable object when attempting this test. • Balance can be improved with simple daily practice.
