Music by: P.Rybakov • Choreography by: I. Moiseyev • Until very recently, the Kalmyks lived as nomads, wandering with their herds on the vast Nogai Steppes near the mouth of the Volga River. They are thought to have migrated from Central Asia, but few details of their history or culture are known. The dancers of the Kalmyks suggest a deep connection to animals and birds, that provided them with their livelihood.
