With the DC universe going through a bit of a transitional period, fans are eagerly looking for something to help bring back balance to the franchise. While The Flash looks promising, it's kind of a given success with Michael Keaton returning as Batman, the Man of Steel references and truthfully, I'm not sure if it's a testament to the resilience of the DCEU. It's also a reset. But, with the release of the Blue Beetle trailer, it looks like the DCU may finally have a new kind of lifeblood. • The film tells the story of Jaime Reyes, returning home from college to find that home is not quite as he left it. In searching to find his purpose in the world, Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he BECOMES the BLUE BEETLE. • What makes this character so interesting is that he's still a relatively new character for DC comics, having been introduced in 2006 as the third incarnation of the Blue Beetle. Jaime is the product of his family, they give him strength and guidance, and he's trying to make something of his life. With the Scarab, Jaime finds the purpose he longs for, just not in the way he had imagined. The scarab is of alien origin and has a venom-like symbiotic relationship with Jaime, and they'll have to work together to find harmony. In this video, we'll discuss the trailer, the significance of the Scarab, and how the Blue Beetle may represent a new beginning for the DCU.
