I wrote this piece in 1973 at age 19 under the tutelage of Dr. Edward Largent when starting my undergrad music degree at the Dana School Of Music in Youngstown, Ohio. Later that year, I opted to finish my Bachelor's degree at the University of Toronto in Canada where I was able to use the free bass accordion as an applied major instrument. I was the first free bass accordion student at U of T in 1973 and this piece helped to get me accepted into the program. Toccata #1 is performed frequently throughout Europe and has been used by winning competitiors in the Coupe Mondiale.
