Longnose Gar fishing can be incredibly exciting. Summertime is one of the best times of year to go after Longnose Gar. Gar will generally stay in slack water and move into rapids to chase any prey or bait fish that swim by. • Longnose Gar fishing can be quite challenging. Their bony mouths can make it very difficult to set a hook properly. Additionally with their sharp teeth and scales your fishing line is also in danger of breaking off. • In this video, we'll talk through how to catch Longnose Gar in a river. We'll talk about some of the best bait to use and where to target/find Longnose Gar in a river. Hope you enjoy! • River Fishing Rod Reel Combo: https://amzn.to/2WC5tQN, https://amzn.to/2Wf7qE5, https://amzn.to/2L8liJJ • Ugly Stik Berkley make some great rods and reels for river fishing. These rods are great for river fishing they'll catch catfish, bass just about anything else swimming in rivers! If you are going for big fish I would recommend getting at least a 6000 size reel with medium heavy rod. If you are going for bass and smaller catfish and gar, all you need is a 2000 - 3000 size reel with a medium action rod. • Cast Net: https://amzn.to/2y61aod • If you are fishing for gar, live bait is key and with the cast net you can get it for free! • Seine Net: https://amzn.to/3fysU6e • Seine nets work great if you are trying to catch bait in shallower water or moving water. They excel when a cast net just won't work! • River Fishing - Circle Hooks: https://amzn.to/2zmXZJq • If you are fishing in rivers with live bait I'd definitely recommend circle hooks! They are great because any fish that bites will hook itself once a little pressure is applied. Fantastic for catching the gar! • River Fishing Leader: https://amzn.to/3ccG6ff • I'd use this 50lb leader because the gar can cut through your main line, but this stuff is so thick you should be safe. • River Floats/Bobbers: https://amzn.to/35JVf5f - for big catfish; https://amzn.to/3dw0R5C - for gar • Float fishing in rivers is a killer way to target fish. Floating allows you to target a large section of river and is especially effective at catching gar and catfish! You want a lighter bobber for gar because it will make it easier for the gar to take your bait without getting spooked. • Transcript: • [Music] • hey guys we are gonna teach you guys how • to catch these longnose gar we're gonna • show you what tableau is what rigs • you're gonna use which bait to use which • baits are the best and then we're gonna • teach you where they are and finally • some tips and tricks to catch these • guard because there's a couple things • that you really want to know that will • really increase your chance of catching • it these are all the most cool types of • fish because they're so prehistoric • looking and they have so many teeth and • they're just not your average fish so • check it out if you liked the video like • subscribe and share it to your other • friends and go out and catch them big • long nose so first things off we're • gonna talk about the tag you're gonna • want a real that can hold at least 100 • yards of six pound test and then • immediate at least a medium fast rotten • reel this gives you enough line to catch • the big gars if you get them but then • it's still small enough to where it's a • fun fight you're also gonna want to • spool this reel with about ten ten to • fifteen pound test I run ten pound test • because the gar that we run into on the • James River aren't all that big the • biggest thing gets pride three and a • half to four feet and ten pound test is • plenty strength to bring that one in so • the rig you're gonna need when you go • out and catch these longnose gar is just • about er you know uh I use about a two • hot circle hook and then a nice foam • weighted bottle • I like the neon orange because it stands • out against the green color in the water • really well where you place the bobber • depends upon how shallow the water is I • like to keep my bait floating above the • ground because gar Moo and around this • the time and they're looking for bait • they're not like most fish where you • want the bait kind of near the bottom I • kind of like it suspended so then the • gar can easily take it and move along • now you're gonna want to rig this hook • with the sunfish bluegill or a golden • shiner these are prime baits for long • there's guard you're gonna find long • those guards at the bottom of Rapids in • the shallower more calm cool • like I said they like to move around • they're not gonna really be hiding out • under structure they like to hide under • these Rapids because that's where the • bait fish gets tumbled up and washed • down they will then go and attack that • bait fish don't bite it first and then • they'll take another run and they'll • swallow it and that's when you want to • set
