Today we’d like to show you two typical ways of bustling a wedding dress. In this video, you will see the American “over” bustle and the French “under” bustle. Tell us which bustle you prefer. Hi everyone I'm Jenna and this is Tori and today we're going to talk to you about bustling dresses. So to give you some background every dress is going to need a bustle. Your seamstress will customize a bustle based off your dress style and preferences. It's important whoever is responsible for bustling your dress comes with you to your seamstress appointment so they can see how it's done. Today we're going to show you two of the most popular bustles, an American and a French bustle. The American bustle is also known as an over bustle. This style has several hooks scattered throughout the waistline of your dress that enables the train to be lifted up and hooked. This style can have one three or even five bustle pickup points depending on the look you're going for and the weight and length of the fabric. This is one of the most popular and simple alteration styles. Next we're going to show you the French bustle. The French bustle is also known as the Victorian bustle or under bustle. This technique is the opposite of the American bustle. This style is popular for gowns that have a more natural waistline. The hooks pick up the train of the gown as they tuck under the fabric. This technique is great for crepe or heavier material dresses. For either method, hooks or ribbons are used to pick up the fabric. Your seamstress will select the technique that works best for your gown and strategically create them for you and place them in your dress. And that's how you bustle.
