My team and I continue to push the envelope further with lofty of goals of a highly sensitive and specific non-invasive diagnostic test for all forms of pelvic endometriosis. For deep and ovarian endometriosis, we're already nearly perfect. With the presence of fluid in the pelvis, a lot of superficial #endometriosis is indeed visible as well, despite many people believing you cannot see this on imaging. Do I think ALL of it is visible? No. As hard as I try, I cannot visualize every superficial endometriosis deposit. But usually there are more than one in a person and we identify some using ultrasound, which is often corroborated with surgery. Also, not everyone who has pelvic pain has endometriosis. The causes are many and cross different health systems. Do we rule out superficial endometriosis on ultrasound? Almost never, unless the clinical symptoms do not match endometriosis and the imaging goes along with it, with a more viable likely diagnosis. But we never say we have ruled out superficial endometriosis. At least we're staying at the leading edge. Hoping this post and the others on the account will help others who are willing to learn push forward as well, whilst also coming up with their own clinical and academic goals to ensure we are all pushing each other forward to provide better care!
