Visual Phasing Discovering the DNA Inheritance of Three Lehmann Brothers

This genealogy presentation discusses the advanced genetic genealogy technique of visual phasing, which compares DNA between three or more siblings and their known cousins. Visual phasing has been termed the ultimate genealogy puzzle given how difficult and time-consuming the process can be, but the rewards are immense. Solving for each chromosome can lead to robust chromosome maps for each sibling, mapping out their inherited DNA to each of their four grandparents. These chromosome maps will provide a road map for how to interpret connections with unknown DNA matches. • The presentation begins with a scientific overview of the crossing over process which takes place in the formation of egg and sperm sex cells, and which leads to the creation of recombinant chromosomes. The talk then discusses how we can observe these recombinant chromosomes when comparing DNA with one's grandparents. And finally there is a discussion of visual phasing and how one can reveal the inheritance patterns of DNA to the grandparent level and beyond, even where there isn't an ability to test grandparents.
