Chopin, a Polish composer, was deeply affected by the news of the failed rebellion and was in a state of rage after hearing about the Russian bombardment of Warsaw while living in Paris. The dramatic and intense character of the piece, especially its rapid left-hand passages, reflects his emotional reaction to the struggles of his homeland, leading to the nickname Revolutionary. • The Revolutionary Étude is not only linked to the Polish uprising but is also revolutionary in a musical sense because of its technical demands, especially for the left hand. The left hand plays rapid, powerful arpeggios throughout the piece, which was unusual and extremely challenging at the time. This pushed the boundaries of piano technique and performance, requiring a high level of skill, control, and strength in the left hand, making the étude revolutionary both in its political inspiration and in its impact on piano music. • According to the Chopin OCVE, a Stichvorlage (German for engraving model ) is the version of a musical score that is used as a reference to prepare engraved plates for printing.
