The SLK model R171 with model refinement package • Parts are sometimes retrofitted to this vehicle. • If so, interior trim components usually have to be removed. • This video shows how to remove the components of the center console. • The battery is disconnected first. Disconnect the negative terminal. • Start on the front section of the center console. • Remove the shift cover using a long wedge. • Disconnect the electrical connector of the selector lever. • Remove the selector lever retainer. • If this proves difficult, use a pair of pliers. • After releasing the parking shift lock, move the selector lever to neutral. • Only then should you remove the selector lever from the selector lever module. • This prevents any damage to the interior. • Detach the cover on the center console and disconnect the two connectors. • One connector is for the mirror, the other is for the convertible top. • The stowage compartment can now be removed. • Remove the two rubber dampers and then remove the two mounting screws. • The stowage compartment can then be taken out. • The next component to be removed is the KLIMATRONIC operating unit. • Simply pull it out and disconnect the two connectors. • The KLIMATRONIC operating unit is then removed. • To remove the beverage holder, remove the two rubber dampers. • Then remove the two mounting screws behind them and take out the beverage holder. • The upper control panel control unit is removed next. • Create access to the electrical connectors and disconnect them. • The COMAND now has to be removed. • First remove the four mounting screws. • On the COMAND, five electrical connectors have to be disconnected. • Once the connectors have been detached, the COMAND can be taken out. • Removal of the front section of the center console is now complete. • Continue with the rear section. • Open the cover of the stowage box and unclip the retaining clips. • Use a suitable screwdriver. • Remove the cover from the hinge of the center console. • Next remove the trim over the rear of the stowage box. • Remove the two mounting screws. • Disconnect the connectors. • These connections are only present on vehicles with sound system ... • ... because two speakers are then installed here. • Disconnect the electrical connector between the backrest. • Remove the bolts from the mounting console of the stowage compartment. • Once the bolts have been removed, the mounting console can be detached. • Now remove the front screws of the center console. • The screws are located here. • Remove the screen for the parking brake.
