The idea is to remove a brick without disturbing the surrounding bricks and to replace it so that it does not appear to have been replaced by matching the old original mortar which has oxidized over the years. I start off using a Makita grinder with a diamond tuckpoint blade then move to a circular saw with a diamond blade and finish using a Ryobi sawzall or reciprocating saw that has a 6 milwaukee diamond grit masonry blade attached. Using these 3 tools I can remove this brick carefully in under 3 minutes. Once the brick has been removed I can simply turn the brick around and use the other face of the brick as the new visible face. I have mixed a historic mortar with color, reset the brick, tuckpointed it into place, and given it an antiqued finish with a wire brush so the mortar will have a roughed appearence and will blend with the aged mortar in the surrounding brickwork. thebrickandstoneguy.com denverbrickrepair.com
