The Wild I-tralian,” “The Screamer” has signed off. One of the original WKBW FutureSonic Radio superstars of 1958, Dick Biondi, died peacefully at home on Monday June 26th. Dick was born in Endicott, New York. He was part of the initial radio lineup that flipped KB’s format to Top40 on July 4, 1958. He came to KB from WHOT, Youngstown, Ohio where he was the #1 jock for two years. Dick Biondi spent two years as KB's night-time jock before heading off to WLS/Chicago in April 1960. In 1970, his stint at WKBW was immortalized by Increase Records as part of its popular CRUISIN' THE FIFTIES SIXTIES: A History of Rock Roll Radio album series that had Biondi recreate a KB broadcast from 1960. While he made stops in Buffalo, Youngstown, Los Angeles and South Carolina, the radio legend spent the majority of his 67-year career in Chicago. Biondi is credited as the first U.S. disc jockey to play the Beatles, on Chicago's WLS 890 AM in February of 1963. He was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2011. #dickbiondi #radio #WKBW #buffalobroadcasting
