[Subtitles are available in English and Latin for this video recording. Select 'Latin' in the Subtitles/CC option to show both.] • Cappella Caeciliana presents this recording of O Magnum Mysterium (composed in 1994) by Morten Lauridsen, as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations. These celebrations also included radio broadcasts, prestige talks and workshops, and other video projects. • Due to the anniversary occurring during the Covid-19 pandemic which prevented the choir from being able to sing together, the members decided to set an existing Cappella audio recording to video. In a link to many great past Cappella events they decided to use some of their favourite performance venues in the choir’s home city of Belfast. Five architecturally significant churches, built over a period of nearly 200 years, were chosen. • The video also includes photographs from the choir’s first 25 years, featuring highlight performances, collaborations with internationally recognised artists, and overseas tours. • The text O Magnum Mysterium celebrates the birth of Christ in the humble surroundings of a stable. (These words are available on-screen by switching on the subtitles/CC option.) • O magnum mysterium, et admirabile sacramentum, • ut animalia viderent Dominum natum, iacentem in praesepio! • Beata Virgo, cujus viscera meruerunt portare Dominum Iesum Christum. • Alleluia! • O great mystery, and wonderful sacrament, • that animals should see the newborn Lord, lying in a manger! • Blessed is the Virgin whose womb was worthy to bear the Lord, Jesus Christ. • Alleluia! • This video was recorded in November 2020 at (in order of appearance and with year of opening): • St Peter’s Cathedral, Falls Road (1866) • Good Shepherd Church, Ormeau Road (1917) • First Presbyterian Church, Rosemary Street (1783) • St John’s Church, Malone Road (1894) • St Bernadette’s Church, Rosetta Road (1967) • You can find more information on the above church buildings and Cappella's connection with them at https://caeciliana.org/files/1092819/... • More information on this video, and on the choir, is available at https://www.caeciliana.org/25.
