Join George and John as they discuss and debate different Philosophical ideas, today they will be looking into the Political Philosophy of Jean-Jaques Rousseau, and focusing on his Social Contract Theory. • A Social Contract is an agreement made between the people and the sovereign as to how society will be ruled, however Rousseau argued that in order to balance people’s freedom with the power of the sovereign it in fact the peoples themselves who should become the sovereign. This social contract theory proposes a direct democratic rule to society.
