Henry Clay Work wrote this song in 1876. According to Wikipedia: The Oxford English Dictionary says the song was the origin of the term “grandfather clock” for a longcase clock. • Henry Work was a staunch abolitionist who helped his father in the underground railroad bringing escaped slaves to Canada. Some of his civil war songs were said to be more popular in the north during the conflict than Stephen Foster’s were in the South. His other most well-known song was Marching Through Georgia released in 1865to celebrate Sherman’s March to the Sea. • The author acknowledged a longcase clock was the inspiration for his grandfather clock song. It was not, however his grandfather’s clock. The Wikipedia article of the community of Piercebridge, County Durham, England includes: • A clock in the George Hotel inspired Henry Clay Work's 1876 song My Grandfather's Clock . The clock was said to have been owned by two brothers named Jenkins. When one brother died, the clock began losing time, and it stopped forever upon the death of the other. • Johnny Cash, Fred Penner, Burl Ives, Foster and Allen, the Everly Brothers, Cliff Richards and Tennessee Ernie Ford and the Winneba Youth Choir (from Ghana) all did great jobs but they all seemed to skip verses. The version I recommend is by Larry Groce for the Disneyland Children’s Sing Along Chorus: •    • Grandfather's Clock
