We will discuss all the in’s and out’s regarding STD testing. • Why should you get tested? • STD’s are very common. So if you have unprotected sexual intercourse you are quite likely to be infected. Therefore always remember the golden rule, after unsafe sex; get tested and get treated! This is the only way to stay safe. • When should you get tested? • A annual screening is recommended, especially among people younger than 25 years old, as they are more likely to be infected with an STD. It is also recommended to get tested if: • If you're having sex with a new partner or multiple partners. • If you're a man who has sex with men. • If you have HIV. • If you use intravenous (IV) drugs. • And if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant, as STD’s can be very dangerous for your unborn baby. • For what STD’s should you get tested? • It is recommended to get tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, Syphilis and hepatitis A, B and C and HPV. • How can you test for an STD? • Urine test: This can be done to screen for chlamydia and gonorrhea. • Swab test: This can be done to screen for chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis. • Blood test: This can be done to screen for syphilis, HIV and hepatitis. • PAP test: This can be done to screen for HPV. • Should you use At-home STD tests? • No, they are unreliable and you will need to visit a doctor anyways. • Thanks for watching, and make sure to subscribe for future videos on medication and medical topics! • Disclaimer: this video is meant purely informational!
