Song: Aba Daba Honeymoon • Pianist: Don Puryear • http://botl.com • Aba Daba Honeymoon is a popular song written and published by Arthur Fields and Walter Donovan in 1914. • The song tells a love story between a monkey and a chimp, who chat with each other all night long in the Congo. Their clever, funny dialogue consists of Aba daba daba daba daba daba dab, said the Chimpie to the Monk; Baba daba daba daba daba daba dab, Said the Monkey to the Chimp. • And the big baboon in the month of June, he marries them, and very soon.....they went upon their Aba Daba Honeymoon! • It's a catchy tune and a really sweet story, so I thought it would be fun to stylize on piano and record. • American novelist Thomas Pynchon referred to the song in a 1964 letter to a friend as the nadir of all American expression • Trivia: In the '70s and '80s, Fritos Corn Chips used the popular tune for their commercial jingle Muncha buncha, muncha buncha, muncha buncha, muncha buncha, Fritos goes with lunch . • And normally I don't make balloon animals as part of a piano video, but it seemed appropriate here - In the video, you'll see me make a balloon monkey. Over 30 years ago, I learned to make hundreds of different balloon animals from a friend Ralph Dewey who was a pioneer in that art and the author of many how-to books on the subject. I rarely have reason or opportunity to make one, but thankfully, I've never forgotten how to do it!
