This occurred during a weekday rush hour, so we were not able to arrive on scene until officers and agents returned to the motel location after the pursuit ended. That video is what you will be seeing as you listen to the incident on audio. • ### • California Department of Justice agents, US Marshals, Cal Fugitive Task Force, and National City SWAT Team took 2 suspects into custody the morning of 5/28/24. This afternoon, they gathered again to arrest 2 more suspects with felony warrants, and undercover agents had them under surveillance in a motel parking lot on El Cajon Blvd 69th St. • All 4 suspects are wanted for a years-long string of brazen retail thefts, mostly of jewelry stores, across Southern California. • • The San Diego Police helicopter ABLE was called in to assist • as they prepared to move in and arrest the suspects, since they • were likely to try to flee. • Just seconds before the agents moved in for the arrest, the helicopter • noticed that the suspects were driving away, heading westbound on • El Cajon Blvd. • The suspects noticed the helicopter, then saw that a car behind them • was driven by a man in a police tactical vest, and they began speeding • and running red lights to flee. • Most of the agents took part in the pursuit, with the police helicopter overhead continuously updating the officers with the location of the suspects. The fleeing suspects mistakenly turn into a dead-end street, and were trapped by pursuing units. • With the 2 wanted suspects in custody, agents returned to the motel to detain and interview a man who had been in the car with the suspects, and went into their motel room before they left the motel. • The man was taken into custody without resistance, interviewed, and released at the scene.
