Motion Blur Tests

Info • -------------------- • While digging into edits and how they're made, I found a common way they usually start an edit which would be to add ReelSmart Motion Blur(RSMB) to their clips. I thought I would be able to do that, but it costs $30. And their demo that has a watermark on it that didn't even work with HitFilm Express 2017. I decided that I should use HitFilm's Motion Blur(HMB) as a way to add in smoothness to clips. However, I often knew that HMB was not the best solution. The program is free, but it's obvious they would have to cut corners somewhere. • With that in mind, I want to do the tests that you see starting with AviRecorder. I knew quality would be top notch, but recording time is unbearably slow. It took about ~16 minutes to record 15 seconds on possibly the lowest FPS, but highest quality frame blend I'll record clips on for edits. I plan to record clips at 180 FPS, so I could slow it down to about 8x while still getting a smooth 30 FPS slow motion. However, that means I'd have to drop the quality on the Frame blend which is not what I want to do. To elaborate, 180 is for FPS and frame blend creates more frames to get it's motion blur like effect. Highest would be how high a program can handle while for me, highest would be 32 Frame Blend. So, for every frame, there would be 32 created. 180 Frames x 32 = 5,760 Frames. The recording time would be at an all-time high for me clocking at a rough estimate of ~2 hours and 8 minutes FOR A 15 SECOND CLIP. Another issue for this would be that the file size would be ridiculous which means a LONGER export time for editing. • After that, I dropped the frame blending an recorded footage on raw 30 FPS. Obviously it was choppy, but with HMB, it did an alright job at using Motion Blur for TF2. However, the sorta jitteryness on the Motion Blur(look at the arm in the HitFilm 180° and 360° clip) was caused by the Motion Blur applying the effect to the entire screen and for it not being smart to not apply blur to a SLIGHTLY moving arm. I tried some settings to make it better, but it just seemed to be the same. Though, the export time of the clips were much faster. A single clip with HMB was still at the same as AviRecorder's time(~16 minutes). However, the export time with all the text, raw clips, HitFilm clips, and Greenscreen clips were ~1 hour. I'd think it is a pretty good time consider the project was filled with the same 15 second clip with different variations. • I decided on using HMB the way it is at the time, but then I thought about the greenscreen. Using TF2's Fog UI and commands along with ikpure's greenscreen skybox(thanks Uil for slightly helping me), I was able to record the viewmodel separately, so it doesn't hurt HMB poor motion tracking and the POV itself without the viewmodel, so HMB can just focus on that. Total time to record was about ~1 minute and 6 seconds, and it was time to test. I plop the clips in, apply HMB on the two separate clips to focus on two different motion and it WORKED! Greenscreen really helped with the motion blur since it didn't need to try and single out the viewmodel because I did that myself! A slight downside to this would be the greenscreen affected the Dead Ringer a bit. However, consider all the weapons have a different color and design, I'm sure some would work and some would look slightly different. I think it's unnoticeable if I didn't tell you, but I think some color correction would try to make the video seem different anyways. • Nevertheless, it goes to show that it's possible to achieve what you want. You just need to be smart on the resources you have. • Best Regards, • Antwan • Programs • -------------------- • Lawena • AviRecorder • HitFIlm Express 2017 • Music • -------------------- • Original Song: • Wii Shop Channel • Original Creator: • Kazumi Totaka • All right goes to the original creator. • Remix Artist: • Nicky Flowers - / nicky-flowers • Remix: • Wii Shop Channel (Remix) - / wii-shop-channel-remix • AntsHUD • -------------------- • A flat HUD made from RaysHUD with some ToonHUD and ahud designs created by me. • Github: • https://github.com/AsianAntwan/AntsHUD/ • Huds.tf: • http://huds.tf/forum/showthread.php?t... • Screenshots: • http://imgur.com/a/S7Cc6 • How to install: • • Video • Media • -------------------- • Add me, join my Discord, or donate. • Steam Profile: • http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76... • Discord: • / discord • Donation: • https://steamcommunity.com/tradeoffer...
