Brooklyn-based Snarkitecture is a collaborative and experimental practice operating in territories between art and architecture. In this short film, co-founder and partner Alex Mustonen tells us how Snarkitecture is interested in “transforming the familiar into the extraordinary.” That’s exactly what they did while trying to answer the question Design Within Reach posed: How would you wrap an Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman? Wanting the instantly familiar form to remain visible, they carefully disassemble the chair and ottoman, then shrink-wrap it in high-gloss paper. Once reassembled, the chair reveals its shape yet remains hidden. The perfect wrap for the “OCD gift-wrapper,” explains Mustonen. We asked three other design teams the same question.
