Due to being made of plastic, the tailgate handles on many GMT800 trucks end up breaking, and this includes the Avalanche. Due to its unique tailgate design though, the process of replacing the handle on the Avalanche is a little different compared to the Silverado and Sierra models. Don't worry though, it's still an easy job that you can have done in under 20 minutes with basic hand tools. • I used a Dorman replacement handle in black, but you can also get one on chrome.
