Veuve Clicquot is the fifth oldest house in Champagne region, founded in 1772. In 1805 founder's son Francois Clicquot unfortunately died and his 27 years old widow Madame Clicquot took over the family house. In 1810 madame Clicquot created first ever single vintage Champgne, one year later she produce a comet vintage regarding to comets flighting over the vineyards. In 1816 madame Clicquot invented riddling table which guarantee crystal clear wine and allowing champagne to be mass-produced. • In 1818 madame Clicquot broke the rules and created first ever rose Champagne. Madame Clicquot also lunched practice that is called Sabrage, which is opening a bottle of Champagne with the sword, this practice was invented in 1811. In 2010 one of the bottles of Veuve Clicquot was founded on shipwreck on the bottom of the Baltic sea, one year after was sold for a small amount of €30 000 in auction on Aailand Island. In 1987 Veuve Clicquot became a part of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. This group is owned by Bernard Arnault, third the richest person in the world. In 2015 in Bonn (Germany) the UNESCO World Heritage Committee took the decision to include the Champagne hillsides, houses and cellars on its World Heritage list, including Veuve Clicquot cellars in Reims. In 1972 to mark 200th anniversary Veuve Clicquot launched their prestigious cuvee called La Grande Dame as a tribute to madame Clicquot, the current release is 2012 vintage, which is a blend of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. The famous yellow label of Veuve Clicquot start to show up in 1835 and became officially trademarked in 1877.
