Determination of Calcium in water samples using Eriochrome Black T as an indicator. Involves using a titration of calcium in water with EDTA. There is an EDTA solution in the buret. The Erlenmeyer flask has a calcium and/or magnesium solution in it with some drops of Eriochrome Black T indicator in it. The titration is over when the purple/red color turns blue. This helps to determine the hardness of water. • Ca^2+ + EDTA^4- = Ca(EDTA)^2- • 1:1 mole ratio • This website is helpful in explaining the chemistry and color change during the chemical reaction: https://chem.libretexts.org/Ancillary...)
