In this video we cover the process of harvesting and preparing Echinacea plants, or Coneflower, for a powerful tincture. This is a rather straightforward tincture to make and we'll be utilizing the root, stems, and leaves of the plant. Echinacea has many uses but it's best known for alleviating colds and flu like symptoms . In fact the plant is widely used in Europe for this purpose and it's considered generally safe to use. First we need to find ourselves some Echinacea plants, usually found in fields/clearings and prairie like environments. If you don't knw how to identify Echinacea I'll put a link further down in the description to my video on identification. After we find our plant we need to access the roots by digging them up. This is a bit tough as the soil tends to be compacted and has a lot of other roots in the way, so be careful to not damage other plants or include them in your final product. When we get the plant home we just need to pick off any bad looking leaves and other spots that are damaged then, rinse them off well. While washing the roots be sure to get inside the crevices with something like a soft bristled toothbrush to remove all traces of dirt. After washing well make sure your plants are thoroughly dried. The last step in this process is to cut up the plant material and place into a jar with our preferred menstruum. After that we have made our tincture and it's ready to sit for 6 to 8 weeks for bottling. • • How to Identify Echinacea: • • How to Identify Echinacea or Cone Flo... • How to Jar Extracts and Tinctures: • • How To Jar Extracts and Tinctures • Foraging Essentials Gear: • Knife • Mora Companion Carbon Steel: http://amzn.to/2c3AHgL • Mora Companion Stainless Steel: http://amzn.to/2cHKkjM • Multi-tool • Leatherman Rebar: http://amzn.to/2ce6ckV (the blast is no longer available) • Leatherman Wave: http://amzn.to/2c9SbnI (Closer to the one I have) • Field Guides • Peterson Guide to Medicinal Plants: http://amzn.to/2cenE6f • Peterson Guide to Edible Plants: http://amzn.to/2cHM3FJ • Foraging Books • The Foragers Harvest: http://amzn.to/2zlK31n • Natures Garden: http://amzn.to/2A38e1M • Backpack • Fieldline Canyon Backpack: http://amzn.to/2chSL4a (the camo design is different but it's the same bag I use) • Shoes/Boots • Globe Sabres: http://amzn.to/2bXYSfi • Merrel Ventilator Shoes: http://amzn.to/2cesWi6 • Merrel Ventilator Boots: http://amzn.to/2c3CMJt • Camera Gear • Camera I Use: http://amzn.to/2iLicQV • Lens I use: http://amzn.to/2yg6OUb • Microphone I Use: http://amzn.to/2iNS20a • Support the Channel by Shopping on Amazon! http://amzn.to/2cHPVqb • Subscriber's Website! • https://www.iloveiodine.com/ • A great and informative site on medicinal herbs by another awesome subscriber of mine: • http://garblingthedandelion.blogspot.... • Support the channel on Patreon! • / trilliumwildedibles • (Some Links Are Affiliate Links Where I earn a small commission at no extra cost to you)
