This is my Arduino based thermal imager. It uses a single point thermal sensor and some servo moters to scan an area to create an image. This model is much cheaper than commercial cameras, but it also takes a lot longer to create a picture. My web site at http://www.centralnexus.com/thermal/ has more details about this project.
