RANDALL LOOP • FOREST, DUNES, AND MILES OF PRISTINE BEACH • The most spectacular and challenging hike in the region, Warren Dunes’ Mt. Randall Loop is a four-mile roundtrip trek through forest and dune to a gorgeous stretch of pristine Lake Michigan beach. Climb the silky soft sand of Mt. Randall’s 260-foot elevation, and your reward is a stunning panoramic view of the lake and an almost ocean-like horizon. Take the trip down, and your reward is miles of undeveloped shoreline available only to those who make the hike. So even in July, you’ll find few to share it with. • Enter the trail from the main trailhead parking lot inside Warren Dunes State Park, or skip the entrance fee and summertime crowds and enter just north of the park on Floral Lane. There’s a small parking lot and clearly marked trailhead at the end of the road. • Local Tip: Plan to spend some time here. The park's large sand dunes and lakeshore beaches make it one of the most popular of Michigan's state parks with an average of about one million visitors annually. • Large sand dunes are found throughout the park. Among the park's dunes are Mt. Randall, Mt. Fuller, Pikes Peak, and Mt. Edward, with the most significant being Tower Hill, the highest point in the park, which stands 240 feet above the Lake Michigan. This dune is the one that is most visible to visitors, many of whom delight in scrambling up its slopes and rushing back down again. Easy access to the dunes make it a popular location to practice the sport of sandboarding. • CAMPING • Warren Dunes was in the top five most popular camping destinations in the state of Michigan based on Google search traffic. The park contains two main campgrounds: Mt. Randall Campground (modern) and Hildebrandt Campground (rustic). The Mt. Randall Campground has 185 campsites 3 small cabins. It's on the inland side of the dunes within walking distance to the beach. The Hildebrandt Campground is rustic and much smaller with only 37 campsites. It has a variety of campsites, some with high levels of privacy and others that are fairly close together.
