https://lifedrawing.academy/free - Watch Free Life Drawing Video Lessons - Discover Human Body Proportions for Artists. • In this video, we will continue discovering different canons of human body proportions. This particular canon is inspired by Robert Beverly Hale, an American artist and instructor of artistic anatomy. • I will now draw the depth of the body to depict its side view. This depth is equal to the five-eye measuring unit. We add one eye to get the depth of the head in the side view. And also, we add two eyes to get the height of the head. Once again, the cranium is simplified as a circle. And the facial part of the head is an oval. The five-eye measuring unit is used to define: • the pit of the neck level • the ribcage • and the waist and pelvis region. • I will now draw stylized outlines of the ribcage and the spinal column. The ribcage is not strictly vertical. It is actually tilted, as illustrated by this paper cylinder. The first pair of ribs tilts from the pit of the neck to the seventh vertebra. The manubrium of the breastbone has another angle. And the body of the breastbone has the third angle. The pelvis, in the side view, fully fits inside the five-eye measuring unit depth. Its top and bottom edges have certain levels. The top point is in the middle of the square and is vertically aligned with the hip joint’s edge. The distance from the hip joint to the knee joint is fifteen eyes or three measuring units. The distance from the knee joint to the ground is the same. Three eyes measure from the ground to the medial ankle and two eyes to the lateral ankle, which is lower than the medial one. The distance from the knee joint to the medial ankle is twice the distance from the toes to the lower leg bones. That distance is twice the height of the face. I will make one more drawing of a body in the back view. Once again, the head and the neck take two squares. Four cubes comprise the volume of the ribcage. And four more cubes contain the waist and the pelvis. The width of the neck at the base is equal to four eyes. The distance between shoulder blades is equal to five eyes or to the width of the head. There are two important features of the pelvis in the back view: • the triangle of the sacrum; • and the triangle based on the sit-bones and the tailbone. • There is also one interesting observation about the bones of lower and upper limbs. The thigh bone, the shinbone, the upper arm bone, the lower arm bone, and the hand with the wrist are getting smaller from one to another in a uniform manner. • In the Life Drawing Academy Correspondence Course, you will get one-to-one personal tutoring from professional artists and art teachers, who will walk you all the way from topic to topic until you achieve the advanced level of drawing skills - https://lifedrawing.academy/correspon...
