Consistency is by far one of the most important factors in all forms of drag racing, but especially bracket racing. In this episode of TRACK TIPS, we cover both how to build a consistent race car, as well as some tips for being a consistent driver. Here are a few key tips: • CHARACTERISTICS OF A CONSISTENT RACE CAR: • Know where your inconsistency is coming from. Most of the time it is the starting line. • Getting your car to hook and launch consistently is key. • Make sure you have enough tire under the car, more tire equates to more traction, which equates to more consistent passes. • Have your car scaled. You want your weight distribution and suspension set up to allow the car to hit both tires equally, and launches straight. A car that twists up off the line or launches sideways is a inconsistent car. • Lighter cars are generally more consistent than heavy cars. Imagine that traction is marginal, a heavy car will experience much more inconsistency off the line than a lighter car. • Longer wheelbase cars tend to be more consistent. Shorter wheelbase cars like to wheelie and get sideways, and this is a source of inconsistency. • Looser converters are more consistent than tighter converters. A looser converter keeps your engine in it's peak performing RPM range for more of your run, which in turn increases consistency. • RPM limiters allow you to launch your car at the same RPM on every pass. This drastically improves starting line consistency. • Electric or Air actuated shifters can take any variance out of your shift point and allow you to keep your hands on the wheel. This is one of the most important things you can do to help turn consistent elapsed times. • TIPS FOR DRIVER CONSISTENCY: • Maintain consistent fluid temperatures throughout your race day. Your transmission temperature is the most critical for consistency so be sure to keep a close eye on it. Be sure to do a thorough warm up before your first pass to help your minimize the change between your first and second passes. • Use temperature stable transmission fluid and always maintain consistent transmission temperature at the starting line. • Extra long burnouts, long staging processes, or being on the converter just a bit longer than normally can all drastically change the transmission fluid temperature in your converter. • Be careful staging! Staging even a couple inches too deep can drastically change your 60 FT times, which in turn causes inconsistency in your ET. • Pay attention to your tracking side to side within the lane. Be sure that you are driving your car right down the center of the groove every time. • -------------------- • 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for more!: http://www.youtube.com/c/gallstartv?s... • 👕 GallStar TV SWAG!!!: https://www.gallstartv.com/ • 📸 Follow me!:   / gallstartv   • -------------------- • GallStar TV is the PREMIER BRACKET RACING CHANNEL!
