My favorite recurring theme in this genre is how the bass lines are perfectly front and center, and completely define the song. I discuss the catchy, picked-bass groove, the dissonance it creates rubbing against the guitar riff, and how the two in tandem offer a slightly unsettling feeling as the song slowly intensifies.
