Ray Barretto (1926-2006) was born in Brooklyn, New York City of Puerto Rican parents. He was a conga drummer, percussionist and bandleader signed to Fania Records. He was known for playing a wide variety of Latin music such as Latin jazz, salsa, and boogaloo. Barretto was a long time member of the Fania All Stars as the master of jam sessions. He is known for his hits “El Watusi”, “Cocinando” and “Indestructible”.
