Places to see in ( Bayonne - France ) L'Adour • The Adour (Basque: Aturri, Occitan: Ador) is a river in southwestern France. It rises in High-Bigorre (Pyrenees), at the Col du Tourmalet, and flows into the Atlantic Ocean (Bay of Biscay) near Bayonne. It is 324 kilometres (201 mi) long, of which the uppermost 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) as the Adour du Tourmalet. At its final stretch, i.e. on its way through Bayonne and a short extent upstream, the river draws the borderline between the Northern Basque Country and Landes regions. • L'Adour has its source in the Pyrenean massif of the peak of the South of Bigorre , with the neck of Tourmalet ( Hautes-Pyrenees ) and throws itself into the ' Atlantic ocean after Bayonne to Tarnos ( Landes ) for the right bank and Anglet (Pyrénées-Atlantiques ) for the left bank. From the Pyrenees to the ocean, the Adour drains a catchment area of 16,912 km covering a multiplicity of environments, landscapes, economic and cultural activities. • The Adour is formed in the valley of Campan in Haute-Bigorre from the meeting of three torrents: • the Adour de Payolle , the Arbizon Massif ( 2,831 m ), • the Adour de Gripp , from the peak of Midi de Bigorre ( 2,877 m ) • the Adour de Lesponne , the massif of Lascours ( 2,488 m ), • The Adour flows north for nearly a hundred kilometers, through the city of Tarbes and the Hautes-Pyrenees to the department of Gers . There, he turned to the west, bypassing the Madiran vineyards , and joins the city of Dax and the department of Landes where it separates the pre hillsides Pyrenean of Chalosse (south) of Landes de Gascogne (north). • It is joined to Port-de-Lanne by the Gaves , of superior flow, which bring the waters of Lavedan , Haut-Béarn and Soule . Then it flows into the Atlantic Ocean between the Pyrénées-Atlantiques ( Anglet ) and the Landes ( Tarnos ). Formerly, the Adour ended with a delta corresponding to the Maremne , around its main estuary of Capbreton . Its current outlet in the Atlantic, up to Anglet , was given to him in 1578 . • The Adour is one of the rare European rivers to still have salmon spawning grounds ( Salmo salar ). In a distant geological past, the Adour dug a deep valley, today underwater. At 35 km off the notch reaches 1 000 to 1 500 meters deep: the Guf of Capbreton , which is absorbed in the large oceanic slope at 50 km from the coast. • ( Bayonne - France ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Bayonne .
