Episode 1091 shows you how. • Welcome back to the MrExcel netcast! In this episode, we tackle a common problem faced by many Excel users - how to create a chart with stacked and clustered series. Our viewer, Jeff from Akron, sent in a great question and we're here to provide the solution. • First, we start with a large amount of data and wonder how we can analyze it effectively. The answer? A Pivot Table! But in this case, we need to create a chart with three series - two stacked and one clustered. Sounds tricky, right? But don't worry, we've got you covered. • To achieve this chart, we use a clever trick. We start by creating a stacked column chart with all three series. Then, we select the third series and change its chart type to a column chart. However, we can't do this while it's on the same axis, so we move it to a secondary axis. This is where things get interesting. • To avoid the third series overlapping with the first two, we insert two blank series and make them all zero. Then, we create the chart again and change the chart type of the blank series to a secondary axis. Finally, we select the third series and change its chart type back to a clustered column. Voila! We have a chart with stacked and clustered series. • But we're not done yet. We need to adjust the gap width to make the third series appear next to the first two. This can be done by formatting the first series and increasing the gap width until it matches the width of the other columns. We also need to fix the scales of the axes to ensure accurate representation of the data. • And there you have it - a chart with stacked and clustered series, just like our viewer Jeff wanted.
