The new Golf R is $10,000 more expensive than the old Mk 7.5, but is it worth ten grand more? With much more power (235kW, 315hp), more torque and a new drift-mode AWD system, the 2022 Golf R Mk 8 should be faster and better than the car it replaces, but it requires spending more money than the old car and it is quite a leap over the $54K GTI as well. • The 2.0T Golf R is available in hatch (as seen here) or wagon, with an optional panoramic sunroof and Harman-Kardon stereo.
