It has to be in position 2. • You can either say: • Mia geht am Wochenende nicht ins Kino, sondern sie bleibt zu Hause. • oder: • Mia geht am Wochenende nicht ins Kino, sondern bleibt zu Hause. • aber and sondern are used differently. • In the Italian restaurant you may say: • Heute isst Ben keine Nudeln, sondern Pizza. • The second sentence corrects the first sentence. • Normalerweise isst Ben keine Nudeln, aber gesten hat er Nudeln gegessen. • The second sentence expresses a restriction or exception. • Another example? • “Mia geht nicht ins Kino, sondern ins Theater”.
