#shorts #thewire • As I mentioned in my video Why Didn’t Bodie Join Eastside After The Barksdales Fell, there’s great chess symbolism in Bodie’s death scene in The Wire. Bodie is rooted to the spot and shoots diagonally, like a pawn, and Chris and Snoop move on Bodie vertically and diagonally respectively, like Rooks and Bishops. O-Dog kills him after coming out of the alleyway in an L shaped movement like a knight. Interestingly, there’s a deeper link between this scene and the famous chess scene in season 1 where D’Angelo explains all the pieces. D’Angelo mentions the king, the queen, the rook, the pawn, but he never actually mentions the knight. Maybe this is why Bodie knew how Chris and Snooped moved, but was caught unawares by the knight O-Dog. All the pieces matter.
