PNNL researchers Evan Arntzen, Doug McFarland, and Brandon Boehnke are pictured deploying particulate organic matter (POM) traps on the Columbia River shoreline adjacent to the Hanford 300A. POM traps are designed to collect organic matter that is transported into the riverbed so that researchers can better understand the microbial ecology of this subsurface zone beneath the riverbed. The work is part of a collaboration with the University of Wisconsin and the University of Waterloo. • For more information about PNNL, visit: https://www.pnnl.gov/ • Facebook: / pnnlgov • Twitter: / pnnlab • LinkedIn: / pacific-northwest-national-laboratory • Instagram: / pnnlab
