Evangelist David Rodriguez Author of • AMERICA, MOTHER OF HARLOTS • social media: • @davidrodriguezministries • 1 Cor 6:12 NLT You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.” • 1 Pet 2:16 NLT “For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, SO don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.” • Gal 5:16 NLT “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” • James 1:14-15 AMP “But each one is tempted when he is dragged away, enticed and baited [to commit sin] by his own [worldly] desire (lust, passion). Then when the illicit desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin has run its course, it gives birth to death.” • Gal 5:19-21 NLT “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. • Vs 21 says “anyone “living” that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.” • The word “living” right here (Pras’-so) in Greek means: To practice or perform repeatedly or habitually. • 1 Cor 10:23 AMP “All things are lawful [that is, morally legitimate, permissible], but not all things are beneficial or advantageous. All things are lawful, but not all things are constructive [to character] and edifying [to spiritual life]. And check out the next verse, one more: • 1 Cor 10:24 NLT “Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.” • • #1 “Constructive to character.” • • #2 “Edifying to spiritual life” • • #3 It should be “for the good of others” • 1. Constructive to Character • The definition of Character is “The particular combination of qualities in someone or something that makes them or it, different from others:” • Titus 2:14 KJV “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” • 1 Cor 6:19-20 NIV “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” • 1 Peter 2:9 NLT “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” • 2. Edifying to Spiritual Life • Rom 8:6 NKJV “For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” • 1 Cor 2:14 NLT “But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.” • 1 Cor 3:1 NLT “Dear brothers and sisters, when I was with you I couldn’t talk to you as I would to spiritual people. I had to talk as though you belonged to this world or as though you were infants in Christ.” • 3. “Don’t be concerned with our own good, but for the good of others.” • 1 Cor 8:8-13 AMP “Now food will not commend us to God nor bring us close to Him; we are no worse off if we do not eat, nor are we better if we do eat. Only be careful that this liberty of yours [this power to choose] does not somehow become a stumbling block [that is, a temptation to sin] to the weak [in conscience]. For if someone sees you, a person having knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, then if he is weak, will he not be encouraged to eat things sacrificed to idols [and violate his own convictions]? For through your knowledge (spiritual maturity) this weak man is ruined [that is, he suffers in his spiritual life], the brother for whom Christ died. And when you sin against the brothers and sisters in this way and wound their weak conscience [by confusing them], you sin against Christ. Therefore, if [my eating a certain] food causes my brother to stumble (sin), I will not eat [such] meat ever again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.” • • In practicing my freedom: Are there brothers and sisters in the Lord that I can cause to stumble? • • In practicing my freedom: Are my children mature enough spiritually, or can I cause my children to stumble? • • In practicing my freedom: Are there non-Christians that look at me as a spiritually mature Christian, as someone peculiar to the Lord, that I can cause to stumble? • ** Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible Commentary said “Unlawful things ruin thousands; ‘lawful’ things (unlawfully used), ten thousands.” ** • 1 Cor 10:33 NLT “I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved.”
